GPS Data Management and Geographic Information Systems Course

INTRODUCTION

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) grew out of an idea of taking geographic knowledge, map layers or map data and putting it in digital form and then being able to analyze it and use it for various applications. GIS has major applications in various day-to-day operations including but not limited to planning, forest management, oil discovery, emergency and disaster response (Coordination, Climate Change, Education), mining, agriculture, health and Monitoring and Evaluation.

Through visualization of the spatial and temporal connections to such things as watersheds, human settlement patterns, natural hazards, soils, weather patterns, landforms, and land use, participants are able to think in communal and regional prospects.

Professionals involved in various programs can use GIS as a tool for planning, visualizing, monitoring and evaluating these programs.

This training exposes participants to the use of GIS in programs with respect to data sources, mapping, infield practical applications, technology and timeline for implementation.
